Notes:MFP. Awarded the 1915 Star, Victory and War Medals. First served abroad (1) France, 26/7/1915. Class Z reserve 17/5/1919.
He volunteered in May 1915, and was immediately drafted to the Western Front, where he was employed on special work in Belgium. He also saw active service in France, was wounded, and on recovery was transferred to Italy. There he was engaged on important duties during the Asiago Plateau campaign, and later went on a food mission to Russia. He returned home and was demobilised in May 1919, holding the 1914-1915 Star and the General Service and Victory Medals.
