Extract from the Sussex Daily News 6 October 1916. P.C. Aldridge, who is a Corporal in the Military Mounted Police in France, says: "One's first experience of shell fire is rather an uncanny feeling, but its gas that puts the wind up properly. There is every police force in the united kingdom represented out here, but I cannot run across any of the boys from West Sussex; thought I have been given to understand that P.C. H. Smith is in close proximity to me. You must have had a rather busy time of late, what with the Zepps and the Liquor Control Bill."
