Letter found in documents from his wife dated 9/4/1930 address 63 High Street C of M, Manchester. To War Office, Isleworth. Dear Sir, Pardon me taking the liberty in writing to you. Owing to my present circumstances requiring help from the British Legion for my six children. They require some proof of which I have none, of my husbands service in the Army, from 1915 to 1918 serving in the 18 Welsh, regimental no. 20830, being wounded in his left or right wrist was then put in the Foot Police. He is now in Strangeways Prison, for want of neglect to his wife and children. I paid him a visit yesterday, regarding same, and he informed me he had lost all, but referred me to his employers they knowing that he was an ex serviceman. But he stated he himself could not give any proof like myself. They kindly phone through to Manchester, Ashton under Lyme and Preston and they told me his record would be in Shrewsbury. Trusting you would give this your earliest reply, being so greatly in need of help. Thanking you, in greatly anticipation. Yours Respectfully, Mrs Ainsworth.Joseph Ainsworth. |
