We regret to report the death on Saturday, of Mr. Ernest Batterson, aged 53, of 7 Victoria Avenue, Camberley. A notary of Henlow, Mr. Batterson went to Camberley some years ago and has lived the whole time in Victoria Avenue, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J Smallbone. Mr. Batterson, who was unmarried, was the second son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Batterson of High Street, Henlow, whose family have a long business connection in Henlow during the last century and the early part of the present one. Mr. Batterson, (Ernie as he was familiarly called) was well known in the sporting circles bot as a cricketer and as a billiards player of considerable proficiency. He joined up with the Bedfordshire Yeomanry in 1908, served in the Military Mounted Police being promoted to the rank of Sergeant. In Camberley he devoted most of his time to the Camberley of the British Legion, to which he had been a member for many years and the Camberley and Yorktown Football supporters club Six members of the British Legion acted as bearers at the funeral, chich took place on Tuesday, a service at St. Michael's Church, Camberley, being followed by internment in St Michael's Churchyard. |
