His will in his army record stated: in the event of my death I give the whole of my property and effects to my wife, Mrs C Brierley, c/o Mrs H Hollingsworth, Thongsbridge, Nr Huddersfield Yorkshire, dated 28/8/18. Statement found in other documents: 6th Witness. L/Cpl. Brierley, T W, MFP states: I was on duty in the Rue de Boucheries on the evening of the 19th inst, I was fetched by Pte Foot at about 8pm to a man who had met with an accident at No. 9 in the same street. I went there and found Pte Cook (Whom I could identify only by his name on his cap as there were no papers or pay book in his pockets), lying on the kitchen floor, severely injured about the head, caused by a fall downstairs.
