Extract from the Uttoxeter Advertiser and Ashbourne Times 2 June 1915. Corporal F. Brint, who served twelve years in the Royal Horse and Field Artillery, writing from Belgium to a friend at Rochester, says he re-enlisted in the Military Mounted Police early in November and has been at the front since the New Year. He says the destruction in Belgium is wicked and not pictures, papers or narratives can convey the true meaning - it must be seen to be realised. Only a few half-starved dogs can be seen in the streets, which have been bespattered with the blood of innocent women and children. Corporal Bring adds that he is pleased to see from the "Uttoxeter Advertiser" that the boys of Rocester and Uttoxeter and district are responding nobly, "but" he says, "we must have more. our people have not yet woke up or realised the seriousness of the nation's situation. |
