Decoration: Military Medal (London Gazette: 36209 Page: 4548 Oct. 14, 1943)
Citation: Military Medal Citation.North AfricaSergeant Bullen is an NCO in 69 Brigade Provost Section. In the battle of El Alamein this NCO was responsible for marking, lighting and control of traffic on the Brigade axis on which supplies, petrol and ammunition were brought forward under cover of darkness to the Brigade. This he did with such efficiency that it became a point of honour within the section that the marking and lighting of the tracks was maintained 100% complete and by constant patrolling any signs or lights damaged by passing lorries were immediately replaced. During the attacks on the enemy position he went forward in charge of tracking parties when the line was broken. He led a tracking party with the pursuing force for a distance of over 140 miles through minefields and over difficult country. When the Brigade moved from El Alamein to Tobruk in December, Sergeant Bullen marked the tracks for the Brigade over a distance of over 300 miles, again at times through unmarked minefields. When the Brigade was in Benghazi Sergeant Bullen worked in co-operation with the local CMP in carrying out patrolling of the town and docks. During the period under review the enthusiasm of this NCO, the example of his work has inspired his men to carry out long, tedious and sometimes dangerous duties with great efficiency and regardless of any consideration except giving the best possible service to the Brigade they were supporting.Recommended for BEM, awarded the MM.
