Notes: | MMP. From Colthwaite. Awarded the 1915 Star, Victory and War Medals. First served abroad (1) France, 19/7/1915. Discharged class Z reserve 25/7/1919. Extract from the Lancashire Evening Post 2 April 1930. A native of Calthwaite, near Penrith, Cumberland, he entered the Lancaster force on April 1st, 1904 and was promoted sergeant in 1921. Mr. Bird, who resides at 14, Beachfield Terrace, Lancaster, joined the Military Mounted Police in January 1915, being attached to the 19th Division saw active service in France and Belgium and was demobilised June 1919. Hes decorations for military service include a Meritorious Service Medal. This article has a photograph of PC Bird in Police Uniform. |
