Decoration: Military Medal (London Gazette: 30830 Page: 9236 Aug. 6, 1918)
Citation: France. MMP 39 Division.France. MMP attached 39 Division. On the 23rd March. west of PERONNE, between CLERCY and FEUSILLIERS, when several enemy machineguns were firing on the transport of 21st Division these two Corporals rode back and prevented a stampede and also prevented drivers from cutting their teams loose. By their example and coolness they were able to maintain coolness and order and thereby saved numbers of limbers and G S Wagons being left to the enemy. There was also a considerable amount of enemy shelling at the same time on this road. Between the 23rd and 31st ultimo these two Corporals were continually in the shelled areas and invariably showed coolness. Recommended by Captain P H Normland, APM, 39 Division. Signed C A Blakelock, Major General, Commanding 39th Division. (This citation taken from P/2105 L/Cpl Crofts, MMP. record but would be the same.)
