Citation: Military Medal Citation.Salerno Landings Italy.Landing with the assault troops on Uncle Red Beach on 9 Sept, Sergeant Brown was in charge of the traffic arrangements from beach to exits. In spite of fire from mortars, 88mm guns and occasional attacks from low flying aircraft, Sergeant Brown remained constantly on duty for the first 48 hours, directing traffic to the exits. During the first 12 hours many hundreds of vehicles were landed on the beach and the fact that there was practically at no time any suggestion of a traffic block, was due to this NCO's cool and steadfast behaviour. Any traffic blocks would have been followed by the gravest consequences. During the whole of the dismebarkation only two vehicles were destroyed by enemy action.Awarded an immediate MM recommended by CO 35 Beach Brick National Archive WO 373/4.
