Maurice Herd. Extract from the Cumberland and Westmorland Herald - Saturday, 15 June 1940. HERD - HOWE Considerable local interest centred in the wedding at Christ Church, Penrith on Monday at Lance-Corporal, Maurice Herd, Corps of Military Police, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Herd, Burton on Holme and miss Vera Elizabeth Howe, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs How, D8ike Street, Penrith. The bride, who was given away by Mr Norman Richardson, wore a dress and coatee in satin-backed marocain in Air Force blue with accessories to tone, and had a spray of lilies. Mrs Crosthwaite (sister of the bride) was matron of honour and Miss Eileen Wilson (cousin of the bridegroom) was bridesmaid. They were attired in navy blue silk marocain with floral top, and had bouquets of blue and yellow irises. The bride's mother wore floral crepe, with had to tone, and the bridegroom's mother a two-piece in wine shade and both had sprays of carnations. Mr R Herd (brother) was best man and Flight Mechanic Herbert Howe and Mr Geoffrey Howe (brothers of the ) were groomsmen. The service was conducted by the Rev. Hugh Niven, Vicar, and the hymn "Lead us, Heavenly Father," was sung, Mr Milne being the organist. The bride was presented with a silver horseshoe by her niece, miss Irene Howe. The reception was held at Hutton Hall. |
