Mounted Police.
There has probably been no one more suited to be in charge of the Leeds City Mounted Police than Inspector S K Boyd, who is to retire from that position on 26 October o n the completion of 25 year's service.
Inspector Boyd was placed on a horse's back when he was little more than a baby and he was only a boy when he joined the 7th Queen's Own Hussars.
He was the first Leeds policeman to be awarded a prize at the Olympia Horse Show, London. His five years in France during hostilities were spent with the Military Mounted Police and he was mentioned in despatches. Along with other Leeds police officers he went to London last year to receive the King's Jubilee Medal.
(His name is spelt Bowd on medal index card and medal index rolls.
