Citation: | Corps Order Book No 23 Page 173Extract from Routine Orders by General Hon J G Byng KCB Commanding 3rd Army dated 1st October 1917.1127 Act of Courage. The Army Commander wishes to express his appreciation of the following act of courage on the part of No P/2013 L/Cpl H Breese, MFP. On the 16/9/17 a horse, ridden by an officer, ran away in the Rue St Aubert, Arras. The officer was unable to release his left foot from the stirrup and was being dragged along the ground. L/Cpl Breese, with great courage and presence of mind, dashed forward and caught hold of the reins of the runaway, and brought it to a standstill after being dragged some distance. The plucky action of L/Cpl Breese undoubtedly saved the officer's life. A record of the above will be made. |
