Decoration Record:
Decoration: Military Medal (London Gazette: 34893 Page: 4266 July 11, 1940)
Citation: Military Medal Citation.France & FlandersDuring the retirement of the rear guards from DENDRE a column of refugee carts escaped from a refugee park on the side of the main road to be used by the rearguards. Hardly had this situation been found by a small GHQ party before it was in turn found by a squadron of enemy bombers. It was subjected to 30 minutes of continuous bombing. At the first salvo most of the cart drivers abandoned their carts and amidst burning cars and upturned carts the frightened horses looked like blocking the road. The small party in which Lance Corporal Rounce was conspicuous through the bombing, cut wounded and dead horses out and led them away into a field. Later during a heavy dive bombing raid at WATTEAU Lance Corporal Rounce was on point duty and remained at his post doing excellent work throughout.Awarded the MM.
