Citation: Military Medal Citation.Monte Cassino, ItalyThe above mentioned NCO was in charge of a Provost Section in support of 167 (London) Infantry Brigade during the attack on MONTE CASINO MASSIF (MR AREA 9508 SHEET 160 JJ, Italy) on the night of 1/2 December 1943. After completing duties on the battalion start line Sergeant Thake supervised the lighting of all tracks in use. He then returned to the start line and worked forward again collecting all stragglers, urging them into the attack and finally assisted in carrying and helping wounded to ADS's (advanced dressing stations). Throughout the whole period he was working under enemy shell and mortarfire. His exemplary conduct, devotion to duty and coolness under fire was an example to his section and was undoubtedly largely responsible for the excellent work done by Provost personnel during the operation.Awarded a periodical MM.
