Citation: OC 50 (Northumbrian) Div Pro Coy TA. New Year Honours. Citation for MBE, Hull Sept 1953 to date. Major J. Bancroft has commanded the 50 (N) Inf Div Pro Coy RMP (TA) during the period that I have commanded the Division. He served in the ranks of the CMP from 1st January 1940 until he was commissioned in October 1943 as 2/Lieut in his Corps, and he rose to the rank of Major by April 1946. He was appointed O.C. of the Divisional Pro Coy in April 1945, and has thus commanded for the past seven years. He has devoted considerable time and energy to building up an excellent unit with a fine esprit de corps. The turnout of his Company both men and vehicles is of a high standard, and the morale is extremely high. That this is so is largely due to the enthusiasm, zeal and ability of Major Bancroft, qualities which he has displayed far beyond the normal line of duty of a Territorial Officer. he has done much to obtain volunteers for his unit which is very well trained and administered and the team spirit in the Company is hard to match. He is an excellent example of a territorial Volunteer Officer, who has given devoted service and I strongly recommend that this service is recognised.C HColqihoun CB. DSO. GOC 50 (N) Inf Div (TA).
