Citation: | Korea. 1 January 1952 - 30 June 1952. Citation for BEM: Sgt Thompson was posted to Korea in December 1950 and served as a section Sergeant with the Military Police attached to 29 British Inf Bde until April 1952.During his service in Korea this NCO stood out as a leader of men and he constantly set an example by his personal appearance and devotion to duty. His spirit of co-operation and his initiative in forseeing the duties requiring attention of the Military Police in a forward brigade sector, such as Traffic Control, road signing, handling of Prisoners of War, discipline of our troops and control of his section personnel, he has typified the ideal Military Policeman in the field and in action. Day and night, regardless of weather conditions or other circumstances, Sgt Thompson performed his duties to the best of his ability in a willing, cheerful manner, and was always ready to assist, even in matters not falling within his immediate sphere of responsibility. This NCO's ability and devotion to duty was observed and frequently praised by the Commander and Staff Officers of 29 Bde, as well as the DAPM 1 Commonwealth Division.Sgt Thompson has, in all respects, lived up to the high standard expected of a British soldier in action.Maj E J Amirault OC 1 Commonwealth Div Pro Coy.
