Citation: | Queens Birthday Honours. Leiutenant Colonel Arthur Charles Burcher (291903) HQ PM (Army). RMP. 1943 - 1971.Citation: Lieutenant Colonel Burcher has served with the Royal Military Police at home and overseas, and also on active service, for a period of twenty seven years. Throughout his service he has been concerned mainly with the prevention and investigation of serious crime, and incidents affecting the discipline of the Army. For the past three years he has held the highest post in the Special Investigation Branch of the Royal Military Police from which he retires on 1 June 1971. In this appointment he has coordinated the work of the Special Investigation Branch throughout the Army and has been responsible for the very successful introduction of modern methods in the field of crime prevention. During the whole of his service he has worked in a manner dedicated to the maintainance of good discipline, his duties occupying much of his leisure time, and for the past five years he has additionally concentrated on preparing his force of men to be able to effectively deal with the potential influences of drug abuse. It may be said that Lieutenant Colonel Burcher has made a considerable contribution to the maintainance of good discipline throughout the Army over a long period and that his efforts have greatly exceeded normal duties.Recommended by: Brig.
