Citation: Immediate award. War Diary WO 95/409 4 Dismounted Traffic Control Unit Mobile Police: 14/8/17 Coxyde heavily shelled, two bursting in the officers billets, not casualties. The following NCO's and man displayed great courage and devotion to duty, remaining on their posts directing traffic during incessant shell fire until relieved, A/Cpl Lay, L/Cpl Todd and Pte Sidney. Forwarded recommendation for immediate Military Medals to these three men.22/8/17 Under the authority delegated by the F M Commander in Chief the army commander has awarded the Military Medal to P/1262 Q/Cpl Lay, 20359 L/Cpl Todd J, 5215 Pte Sidney J.
