Extract from the West Briton, Truro Cornwall, 18/11/43. REPATRIATED PRISONER'S MARRIAGE. A large number of people assembled in Greenbottom Methodist Church on Saturday to witness the marriage of L/Cpl Garfield Arthur Slade a recently repatriated POW from Germany and eldest son of Mr and Mrs A Slade, Tregavethan and Miss Florence Emily Vigus youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs B Vigus, Agar Crescent, Greenbottom,. The Ref. R R Greenslade superintendent minister officiated and Miss W Bazeley was the organist. Hymns were sung by the choir and congregation. The bride, given away by he father, wore white silk and bridal veil and carried carnations. Mrs J Penellum (sister of the bridegroom) was matron of honour. Miss Ruth Woolcock (friend of the bride) was bridesmaid and Miss Pamela Moyle (niece of bride) was flower girl. Mr M Slade ( brother of the bridegroom) was best man and ushers were Messrs. J H Moyle (brother in law of the bride) and P Slade (uncle of the bridegroom). After the ceremony Mr. Greenslade presented the couple with an inscribed Bible from Greenbottom Methodist Church, the bride having been all her life associated with the church and for a number of years was pianist at the Band of Hope. Reception followed at the Brides home. |
