Citation: Queens Birthday Honour. 23774133 Staff Sergeant Robert Briggs, 101 Pro Coy. RMP. NCO IC Police Det. Antwerp, Belgium. Nov 1980 -Dec 1982.Citation: SSgt Briggs commands a small Police detachment at British Forces Antwerp with duties throughout the Low Countries. His appointment is vital both in peace and on mobilisation and since the disestablishment of the DAPM HQ BFA his personal responsibility has increased considerably. Because of the size of the area and the wide variety of tasks SSgt Briggs has shouldered a heavy burden which involves frequent out-of-hours and weekend activity and the need to be permanently on call. The demands on the section call for high morale, good training and sound administration and SSgt Briggs has responded magnificently. he has shown leadership of the highest order. Situated some 90 miles from his company headquarters he has also displayed initiative and judgement far above that normally required of an NCO of his rank and experience. It is in the critical field of liaison with the Belgian and Netherland civil and military police authorities, however, that in the absence of a DAPM, SSgt Briggs has found his greatest challenge. It is to his credit that he has not only maintained these links, which are of a very highest importance in both peace and war, but has succeeded in achieving a significant improvement. To do so has taken a great deal of hard work over and above his other responsibilities and the results he has achieved have been invaluable to my headquarter. SSgt Briggs has performed outstanding service in all aspects of provost work in the Low Countries and particular.y in improving relationships. he strongly merits special recognition.Recommended by: Col.
