Royal Military Police Warrant Officer class I John Samuel Wood (38), of Warrington, Lancs, who "never flinched from Work under fire ... and has set a splendid example of sustained courage and resolution which deserves the highest recognition," gets the MBE.

Citation: Northern Ireland. Citation: Within a few days of arrival in Northern Ireland in July last year Warrant Officer Class I Wood, of the Corps of Royal Military Police, was detailed for duty during operations in the Lower Falls area of Belfast. Heedless of danger, he carried out his military duties with great courage and determination.Subsequently, after the severe Shankhill riots in September, 1970, and again in January 1971, he was able to bring a number of difficult and important military police matters to a successful conclusion.During his period of service in Northern Ireland WO Wood has never flinched from work under fire or from entering areas where his life could have been in danger, and has set a splendid example of sustained courage and resolution which deserves the highest recognition.
