Extract from Yorkshire Evening Post, 18/3/41. LEFT GOAL: JOINED POLICE. Three days after he came out of prison last August, Reginald Thomas Cooper Betts (29) enlisted in the Corps of Military Police. But , it was stated at the Old Bailey to-day, he deserted when he believed the authorities had learned of his past. The Recorder (Sir Gerald Dodson) said he was surprised that a man with a record could join such a body. Betts pleaded guilty to stealing two mailbags and asked for two other offences to be taken into consideration. He was sentenced to three years penal servitude. |
