Citation: Silver Jubilee. 23732431 Staff Sergeant John O'Donnell, RMP. Investigator and Platoon Commander, 160 Provost Company. 1 July 1975 - 30 November 1976.Citation: After a decision to establish a new Investigation Department in July 1975, Staff Sergeant O'Donnel was nominated as the supervisor. His previous two years service as a Chief Clerk naturally resulted in unfamiliarity with new legislation and investigation techniques. Quickly, by dogged determination and concentrated private study his knowledge and expertise became superior to that of his contemporaries. From virtually nothing, by exceptional drive and enthusiasm he has produced an investigative element of the unit which provides a highly respected and professional service to units in the District. In 18 months, due to his inspiration and determination the detection rate in investigations has increased by 130% and resulted in 31% more crime being reported. To achieve these exceptional results, by personal choice he has regularly worked over 80 hours per week. The fact that military crime within South East District has at least been kept at a constant lever can undoubtedly be credited to Staff Sergeant O'Donnell's dedication above the call of duty. His magnetic inspiration and influence has extended throughout the unit enthusing relatively inexperienced Non-Commissioned Officers into becoming confident and competent Military Policemen. He has carried out his duties as a Platoon Commander with exceptional leadership and management sills. The problems of his men have literally been resolved at any time of the day or night. The exceptional inspiration and example that Staff Sergeant O'Donnell has shown will have a lasting effect on the unit and on all personnel as they progress in their careers.Recommended by: Maj. OC 160 Provost Company, RMP. Brig. Aldershot. Lt. Gen. GOC South East District. Gen. C in C UKLF.
