Citation: BEF. Citation for MBE: For ceaseless energy and devotion to duty at TOURNAI during the operations on the Escaut River from 19th to 22nd May. When owing to heavy bombing, the civilian authorities ceased to function, under heavy air attacks, he helped with the organisation of the civilians, destruction of records and prevention of sabotage of the bridges for more than four days.Maj Gen W G Holmes CB, DSO Comdr 42 Div.
