Citation for MC: This officer was in command of two sections of Military Police whose duty it was to ensure a smooth flow of traffic in the assault crossing of the R. Rapido at MR865172 on the night of 11/12 May 1944. Although under heavy shell, mortar and MG fire, this officer took control of his TCPs, displaying great courage and complete disregard for his personal safety. On the morning of 12 May, owing to heavy enemy fire, the TCP personnel were ordered to withdraw behind the railway cutting. Lieut CLARK reorganised these troops and led them forward again to re-establish the TCP's. Once these were in a position and he was satisfied that all was in order he continued to visit them in turn under heavy enemy fire and personally to repair the telephone line back to Sector Control. It was undoubtedly his complete grasp of the situation at a very difficult time that very materially assisted in the traffic control across the R.Rapido.Capt OC 4 (Brit) Div Pro Coy.
