Citation: | Italy. Citation for MBE: This officer was posted by me on 20 Nov 43 to be responsible for the road from TORINO M.R.445985 (sheet 108-iv 1/50,000 ITALY) to South Bank of River SANGRO M.R. 402971. His duty was to ensure the forward flow of traffic, which could only move under cover of darkness, in preparation for the assault crossing of the R. Sangro. Lieut. Rowe with 2 secs of 101 Pro Coy under command, carried out all duties with outstanding efficiency from 20 Nov until 3 Dec 43 when relieved. During first four days of this period Lt. Rowe was constantly on duty on roads which were being shelled by enemy artillery. Vehicles hit and set on fire on one occasion, were cleared under supervision of this officer. As a result of his continual alertness, all traffic was given necessary protection from enemy observation on the forward slopes approaching SANGRO River, thereby saving life and valuable equiment from certain destruction by enemy fire. At all times Lt. Rowe was outstanding in courage and initiative, under the most difficult circumstances, and his work was a material contributory factor to the success of crossing the SANGRO River. Since being relieved of above duties Lt. Rowe has been in charge of PROVOST, LANCIANO, M.R. Sq 320-3. In this busy town during advance, this officer has been an example to all ranks, and his efficiency, cheerfulness and devotion to duty are beyond all praise.Recommended for a periodical MC, awarded MBE.Lt Col APM 5 Corps.
