Hamilton Gordon CB, Commanding IX Corps, dated 3/7/17CRO No 214 Gallant Conduct. The Corps Commander wishes to express his appreciation of the gallant conduct of No P/1117 A/Cpl Pridham F, and No P/1475 L/Cpl Bailey C, MFP, under the following circumstances:- On the 19 June 1917 a fire broke out at Schaexkei. Cpl Pridham and L/Cpl Bailey un-daunted by the fire managed to remove a major portion of the contents, and subsequently exerted every effort to put out the fire, Cpl Pridham remaining inside the building until the beams began to fall. He then mounted a ladder and assisted by L/Cpl Bailey poured buckets of water on the buring roof. During this time L/Cpl Bailey was badly cut on the head by a falling tile. The fire was undoubtedly prevented from spreading to the neighbouring buildings, owing to the resource and energy of these two NCO's. An entry of this action will be made in the Conduct Sheets of these NCO's in accordance with KR para 1919 (XIV).Signed H de C Marlelli Lt ColFor DA & QMG 9th Corps. |
