The GOC in C, Western Command ahs recorded his appreciation of the courage and presence of mind of Pte L Thompson of the Corps of Military Police who lives at Mansall Road, Rock Ferry. Thompson who belongs to the "Blue Caps" the vulnerable points of the Military Police - was one of seven passengers in a War Department truck which plunged over the edge of a dock into 32' of water during the black-out. All the men were wearing greatcoats with arms and equipment. When in the water Thompson noticed that one of the men was in difficulty. He got rid of his greatcoat and equipment and went to the man's assistance, rescued him, with the aid of a civilian ant then helped to keep another man afloat until he could be hauled to the side with rope. |
