Albert Leonard Styles, a smart looking khaki clad corporal, was charged at Blackpool Police Court, on Tuesday, with being an absentee, since April 8th, from the Northamptonshire Regiment. Colour Sergeant S C Bath, of the Military Foot Police, stated that he saw Styles in Victoria Street on Monday. When asked if he was on leave, Styles said "yes," and produced a pass, signed by a supposed Capt. Walker. he said he belonged to the 2nd Machine Gun Corps and gave the name of a Corp. Askew. he was wearing an officer's cap and badge of the Machine gun Corps. Witness took Styles to the military police headquarters, where he was found to b in possession of a warrant, which, by filling in, would enable him to travel anywhere, several half fare vouchers, with which he could travel anywhere for half-fare, and two badges of the RAMC. He was also wearing the cross swords badge of a gymnastic instructor. Styles was handed over to a military escort. |
