He served in the Royal Army Medical Corps from 1901 to 1903 under the name A Keeber and served in South Africa, he was transferred to the Army Reserve in 1903 but re enlisted in the Leicestershire Regiment in 1904, under the alias of Smith, and claimed the King's Pardon in 1910, 15/10/1904 he enlisted as a Pte 1 Leicestershire Regiment, No. 7509, 15/6/1905 awarded 56 days imprisonment with hard labour for striking his superior officer, 31/7/1915 transferred as a Pte 1 Notts & Derby Regiment, No. 29086,8/2/1918 transferred to MFP, 18/6/1919 with DAPM, Kantara, 2/8/1919 to class Z reserve. Served home 5/10/1904 to 19/9/1905, Indian 20/9/1905 to 28/11/1912, Home 29/11/1912 to 8/8/1914, BEF 9/9/1914 to 23/4/1915, Home 24/4/1915 to 23/10/1915, Egypt 24/10/1915 to ?
