Major Charles Walker senior Provost Officer in Northern Ireland District since 1957, retires on Saturday next after 30 years combined Army and Police force service. He will be succeeded at NID by Major M Hore, late Commander of 150 Provost Company, Catterick. In addition to being Deputy Assistant Provost Marshal, NID - the senior provost appointment here - Major Walker is Officer Commanding 173 Provost Company, Holywood. He enlisted in the Grenadier Guards in 1928 and in 1932 joined the Guildford Borough Police, serving with them until rejoining the Grenadier Guards in 1939. In 1941 he was commissioned into the Worcestershire Regiment for Provost employment and saw service in the desert campaign. He was Assistant Provost Marshal Tel-Aviv and Jaffa from 1944 -1946 and he served at APM Singapore District until 1950, during which time he was awarded a mention in despatches for his services there. |
