Decoration Record:
Decoration: Commander of the British Empire (London Gazette: Page: None)
Citation: Citation: This officer took command of 52 Area in May 44 when difficulties were being encountered in the organisation of the personnel port of TARANTO. Under his able administration these difficulties were quickly overcome. Soon after he arrived arrangements had to be made for operation ANVIL, from that port. The admin arrangements for and the control of the troops which were launced from TARANTO were highly satisfactory largely due to his careful planning and influence. Since then he has been given considerable additional commitments all of which have been accepted and solved in the same cheerful and thorough manner. Brig CALWELL (spelt CALDWELL) has been commanding an area or sub-area in this theatre of operations since early in 1943 and was instrumental in mounting operations from Sicily to the mainland. Results he has achieved have always been of the highest order. I recommend the award of the CBE for these services.Recommended by Maj Gen Commanding 2 District.Award not found in London Gazette
