Extract from the Manchester Evening News, 20/12/44. Letters to the Editor.
May I offer my very best thanks to those people of Manchester who helped to make my return to England such a pleasure after service in North Africa and Italy ?
I was evacuated to UK as a result of injury, and the reception we received at Manchester was of the very best. The work of the ARP and Rescue team who were stretcher bearers from the train to the ambulance was first class, and after our sea voyage it was a pleasure to get to hospital.
There every consideration was shown to us; within half an hour we had been made comfortable by a good wash, the doctor had visited us, and a very good meal had been served.
I should also like to thank the sister and nurses of S1 Military Ward for the care and attention given at all times. "Well done Manchester."
