Extract from the Wiltshire Telegraph 17 October 1914. LANGLEY BURRELL. DEATH OF SERGEANT J. E. BINDON's MILITARY FUNERAL AT BULFORD.
There is much sympathy for Mr. and Mrs. Jefferies, of Hill Corner, in the death of their son-in-law, Sergeant J. E. Bindon, Corporal of the Military Mounted Police. The deceased who was well known in Langley Burrell, having married the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeffries, was a late Sergeant of the 1st Royal Dragoons, in which crack regiment he served for 12 years, including two and a half years active service in South Africa. He took part in the relief of Ladysmith and had two medals. When the war broke out he was linving at Bennett, Park, Blackheath and placing his services once more at the disposal of his country he re-enlisted and was appointed Corporal of the Military Mounted Police. In the discharge of his duties Sergeant Bindon contracted a chill, which resulted in double pneumo0nia, from which he died on Thursday last. The funeral took place on Saturday at Bulford with full military honours and in the presence of a large gathering of deceased's comrades and friends, by all of whom he was held in the highest esteem. The mourners included the widow, the deceased's brother, Colour Sergeant Bindon, late of the 1st Somerset Light Infantry and now recruiting at Ilfracombe, Mr. and Mrs. Jefferies, Mr. R. Jefferies, Mr. and Mrs. F. Cuzner, Jun,, and Mr. and Mrs. W Lanfear.
