Extract from Leamington Spa Courier, 4/8/44.
The sign of the local paper of our home town when we are out in the world, often causes or cures a fit of home-sickness. Many Leamingtonians are restless when on holiday unless they have the "Courier" sent on to them. Few, however can have managed to get hold of an old "Courier" in such an odd way as did Mr Reg Bayliss, son of the later Mr E J Bayliss, JP. At present he is in Normandy "on business." Having landed on the beach head the day after the initial assault as a member of the Corps of Military Police. Writing from "beyond Caen" to a friend on the staff of the "Courier," he says: "The padre was walking by with a rolled-up paper in his hand the other day, and to my surprise I recognised the old "Courier," Much to his surprise I asked him if it was not the "Courier," for he could not understand how it was possible to tell what paper it was, rolled up like that. however, he told me he had picked it up on his way round and was going to put it in the rest room but he gave it to me instead.
