Decoration: British Empire Medal (London Gazette: 39421 Page: 27 Jan. 1, 1952)
Citation: Citation: Acting Warrant Officer Allen has been Warrant Officer in charge of 60 Military Corrective Establishment CYRENAICA since its formation in January 1950. He has supervised the growth of this establishment from an improvised tented camp to permanent hutted buildings. During this period he has had to operate under extremely difficult and trying conditions, with lack of trained staff, inadequate accommodation, adverse climatic conditions and great shortage of water. As a result of his initiative and hard work he has now produced a most efficiently run unit, which has been commended on many occasions. Although only an acting Warrant Officer, he has often had to carry out duties normally pertaining to an officer by dealing directly with Commanding Officers and Adjutants of units and Staff Officers of the District Headquarters. He has proved fully capable of making correct decisions and taking the full responsibility of an officer. The high state of efficiency of 60 Military Correction Establishment today is almost entirely due to the influence, strength of character, personal example and extreme devotion to duty of Warrant Officer Allen, under most trying conditions.Recommended by Major E Fitzgerald, Cameronians, 2 i/c 211(M) Group, RPC & Superintendent 60 MCE. Col J F Snow, Commandant Benghazi Garrison and Brigadier Commander, Cyrenaica District.
