Guards Armd Div Pro Coy War Diary WO 171/390. 15/9/44 acting on information from a boy 2654523 Sgt Howell C and 2656086 Cpl Bridge B rounded up 14 German soldiers hiding in a barn. Cpl Bridge went to the rear door of the barn and Sgt Howell cautiously opened the front door and shouted to them to surrender and saw numerous heads appear from a heap of straw. The prisoners were the disarmed and handed over to 1st Welch Guards in the village of Overpell. 4/11/48 He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, France & Germany Star, Defence Medal, War Medal, MID.
