Police Sergeant R Allies, who has been promoted from constable at Bulford to succeed Sgt. J. Tanswell at Chippenham on the latter's coming removal to Wilton, has taken up duty at Chippenham. A native of Tetbury, Sgt Allies joined the Royal Suffolk Regiment in 1932 and served with them in Indian until January 1939, when he returned to England on transfer to the Corps of Military Police. on the outbreak of war in September 1939 he went to France with the British Expeditionary Force and was evacuated from Dunkirk in June, 1940. In 1942 he proceeded to the Middle East where he served as a Sergeant Major in Egypt, Palestine and Syria until the end of 1945. In January 1946, he joined the Wiltshire Constabulary and was stationed as Malmesbury, later going to Milton Lilbourne and then to Bulford.
