Decoration: Belgian Croix de Guerre 1940 with Palm (London Gazette: 37853 Page: 326 Jan. 16, 1947)
Citation: Belgium. Citation for Belgian Croix de Guerre with Palm. Cpl BOWERS, throughout the campaign in BELGIUM, worked with untiring energy and performed duties far in excess of those demanded of him. On many occasions he displayed outstanding initiative in dealing with traffic and refugee problems, and his unfailing energy and cheeruflness were an inspiration, not only to his own detachment, but to all men in the Company. The speed of the advance brought the greatest strain on Provost personnel and Cpl BOWERS rose to the occasion and executed his duties in the most efficient manner. On the eve of liberation of BELGIUM 15 (S) Infantry Division fought a fierce engagement with the enemy on the JUNCTION CANAL north of GHEEL. Cpl BOWERS, being in the section in support of the leading Brigade, performed admirable work controlling traffic and signing alternative routes forward. No duty he was asked to perform seemed beyong his capabilities and he carried out his duty in a competent and most praiseworthy manner. Maj APM 15 (S) Div. Maj Gen Comd 15 (S) Div.
